PRESS RELEASE: From a Municipal Election Campaign Kick-Off to a Fresh Vision for the City of Moncton, A New Old Voice for the City of Moncton
MONCTON - March 28, 2026. Reem FAYYAD, a familiar face, and voice, in our region has officially announced her plans to run for City of Moncton Council in May 2026.
Surrounded by her family, friends and community members, FAYYAD shared her vision for a City for All at a kick-off event at Alma City Club in the very heart of Moncton Downtown area which is located in Ward 1 where she will be running.
“We are so fortunate to live here - to witness this beautiful city grow before our own eyes”, FAYYAD said explaining her family’s choice of moving to Moncton over fifteen years ago.
From a newcomer to the city to running for City Council, FAYYAD has been a vocal advocate of cultural and community building projects in the city and a big believer in the importance of asking questions and making informed decisions.
Having lived in the city for over fifteen years, FAYYAD has seen it grow, overcome challenges and become a regional hub for diversity and growth opportunities. “The decision to run for Ward 1 was an obvious one for me; I have always been inspired by the city’s resilience and welcoming spirit. It would be an honour for me to serve on its council” FAYYAD added.
At the campaign Kick-off event, FAYYAD passionately explained her vision for a proactive city where communities are supported, heritage is preserved, and where growth is planned rather than reactive.
FAYYAD’s campaign priorities for the City of Moncton are clear and pertinent; a livable city for all based on smart growth and accountability.
“Because a city’s success isn’t measured by how much or how fast it grows - but by how well we live daily, in every neighbourhood”, FAYYAD said.
Reem Fayyad Abdel‑Samad is a senior executive, writer, musician and cultural leader based in Moncton. Her career in strategic planning and performance measurement has focused on rigorous analytical skills and evidence-based decision making, simply asking the tough questions to understand how decisions can lead to improvements in health care and population health. She draws on a Master of Science in Environmental Health from the American University of Beirut and professional experience in Lebanon and Dubai. A committed artist and community builder, Reem founded the Arab Culture Club to share the diverse and rich Arab heritage with New Brunswickers and to foster social cohesion through cross‑cultural exchange. She is a published poet, a soprano vocalist who has collaborated with many ensembles and musicians. She currently co-chairs the cultural board of the city of Moncton, and is the president of the Arab Culture Club, and has served on boards of community organizations like the Moncton Lebanese Association, Frye Festival, MAGMA, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Reem blends professional excellence with creative practice and grassroots cultural programming to build bridges between communities and contribute to better quality of life.
Fifteen years ago, Moncton Ward 1 became my home.
Like you, I’ve watched our city and our neighbourhood grow. I’ve celebrated that growth, but have also seen the growing pains. While we stayed — many others left.
I’m running because Moncton can be a city people choose — and can afford — to stay in.
A city that grows smartly, plans responsibly, and actually works for residents of all ages and backgrounds — now and into the future.
That means stable, affordable housing.
Neighbourhoods that feel safe, welcoming, and connected.
Streets that work for pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and families.
Commutes that are smoother. Public transit you can rely on.
And a city people trust and feel they belong to.
That means city decisions should be guided by one simple test:
Does this improve everyday life for people — in every neighbourhood, and especially here in Ward 1?
That’s why I’m running — to make sure Ward 1 has a strong voice, to ensure Moncton grows smartly, and becomes a city people like to visit, and can afford to stay in; a city that truly works for the people who call it home.
"Since October 2023, I have had the privilege of working with Reem Fayyad, who is a committed, attentive, and deeply compassionate person.
Her work, passion, and ability to bring people together make a real difference to our community.
I am convinced that this leadership, based on listening and action, is exactly what we need to move forward together.
It is with pride that I offer my support for her candidacy. "
“Reem is a strong, principled leader who believes that good decisions start with good information. She uses evidence and clear measurements to guide her decisions and ensure accountability.
Her focus is simple and powerful: making informed choices that improve the well-being of our city. Ward 1 would be well served by her voice, integrity, and evidence-based leadership.”
If I lived in Ward 1, I would wholeheartedly , and without hesitation, support Reem.
I have known Reem for many years as a person who is intelligent, practical, itellectual, artistic, caring, and true to her words.
Her well- rounded personality, and her leadership initiatives over the years, make her an excellent candidate to join the council of a city that she genuinely loves
Reem is someone who truly cares about people. Her compassion, determination, and ability to see issues from multiple perspectives make her an exceptional candidate for the Moncton Municipal Council. I have no doubt she will serve the residents of Moncton and Ward 1 with heart, fairness, and strength.

This campaign is conducted in full compliance with Elections New Brunswick guidelines, including all rules related to contributions. You can find more information about donation guidelines on their website.
Municipal governments play an important role in advancing reconciliation by fostering understanding and creating inclusive and equitable communities. In Moncton, this means continuing to work in partnership with Indigenous-led organizations and listening to the voices of Indigenous residents to address their specific needs and priorities. Building trust requires respect and meaningful collaboration. It also requires acknowledging that the City of Moncton is located on the unceded and traditional territory of the Mi’kmaq people and that we live and work under the Peace and Friendship Treaties.
